BP3_Schoology

The web 2.0 tool I plan research is Schoology. The website is : http://www.schoology.com/. I think this will be an excellent Web 2.0 tool for our school to use. With schoology, the teachers and administrators will be able to share content, grades, lesson plans, grade level meetings' minutes, send emails, and do a plethora of activities that currently require a ton of paper work.

Schoology allows for schools to create personal social networks amongst individual classrooms and grade levels. For the classroom, teachers are able to mark attendance, create assessments for students to take online, and communicate with parents. As for the grade levels, there are several opportunities for teachers to collaborate electronically. First, teachers can create blogs to communicate and RSS feeds to others to discuss best teaching practices. Secondly, they are able to create and share lesson plans and online assessments for all students to take. After taking the online tests, schoology can generate reports based upon student's performance. The teachers can evaluate and discuss data online.

This Web 2.0 site verifies whether or not you are an employee of your school. Once you have been verified, you can set up your school's network that will allow for a school wide data sharing and communication warehousing. With grades and reports being open for administration and the entire grade level to see, teachers will no longer have to print out weekly, monthly assessment reports. Information sharing can be made in real-time which will lead to more effective and faster decision making.

  1. Hey Katecia,

I commend you on your intent to make your personal practice more green. You will undoubtedly serve as a catalyst for change in your personal immediate environment, and will certainly also play a significant role in the level of consciousness your little students grow into.

I think this is one of the most notable advantages of technological progress: That we can benefit, rather than harm, the living planet with which we exist. I expect the future to be guided by the positive and purposeful intentions of leaders and visionaries like yourself.

The Schoolology service appears to be a great service and tool not only towards that end, but also towards effectively preparing young learners for the world of tomorrow. By engaging them with useful technological tools, particularly those with a social aspect, we will lay the foundation for effective use of the Internet and the learning and business environments of the future.
